RSP were approached to contribute supporting visual effects that helped retain the message of the story and enhance realism in key climactic moments in the film. RSP used live action and computer generated effects elements to enhance the helicopter attack on the diamond mines, the rocket-propelled grenade battle on the streets of Sierra Leone, hand-to-hand combat, and to digitally remove limbs from orphans. These sequences were composited in a seamless manner to keep the audience’s attention on the story instead of the effects.
RSP’s team collaborated with VFX Supervisor Jeff Okun and Director Edward Zwick to ensure that their vision was matched without compromise. Great care was taken to ensure that the brief was met, and interactive cineSync reviews with Jeff Okun allowed the communication of this brief in an effective and succinct manner. A wide variety of visual effects techniques were employed by the team to guarantee action sequences that keep the audience on the edge of their seat!
