We are excited to be looking for an experienced Groom TD to join our growing crew.

Employment period: Contract length negotiable, with an immediate start.

Location: Adelaide, Australia. This position is open to Australian and international applicants. Visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.


Position Overview

The Groom TD is responsible for creating high end quality realistic hair, fur, and feather grooms for creatures, characters and environments in high-end feature films. They work closely within the Creature Team and with the Modelling and Look Dev teams to produce photo realistic grooms.

Your previous titles may include Groom TD, Creature FX TD, CFX Artist, and/or Creature TD.


Responsibilities
  • To work closely with the Modelling and Look Dev departments to produce realistic grooms for digi doubles and creatures.
  • To translate concepts and feedback from supervisors into shot ready grooms.
  • Meet delivery deadlines within production constraints.
  • Provide regular updates & present your work in progress to department and show supervisors, informing them of any issues that may affect progress, offering solutions as required.

Required skills and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant groom experience across high-end feature film.
  • Previous experience with grooming tools such as Yeti, Xgen or Houdini Grooming.
  • At least basic experience with Maya’s Nucleus solver. NCloth and/or NHair specifically.
  • Understanding of the shot sculpting process within a fur and hair pipeline.
  • Strong initiative and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Visual Effects, Fine Art, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or related tertiary qualification may be required for international applicants.

Desired Skills
  • Python and/or c++ knowledge a plus (Or desire to learn)
  • An understanding of traditional rigging techniques eg. Puppet development, Linear skinning etc.
