Generally yes. We’re looking for the best person for the job first and foremost. In this nomadic industry they can come from anywhere. There are no golden rules, but generally applications should cover:

√ Two pages, no more. PDFs only please.

√ Details of previous positions held with which company & project for at least the last five years. Reverse chronological order.

√ Relevant skills. We rarely do commercials so we don’t need a list of every TVC you’ve worked on. If there’s a couple you’re proud of course.

√ Software skills & proficiency

√ Email address, mobile or cell number [full international dial code], skype address

√ URL to your reel [as well as in the email body]

√ Country of passport [as well as in the email body]

√ Relevant educational qualifications [relevant for visa applications]

√ International English Language Testing System [IELTS] score if available [relevant for visa applications]

√ Referee details if available

× Religion, hobbies, home address, driving qualification.

Again, there are no golden rules only guidelines.

√ Reverse chronological order. Put your latest work first.

√ Best work first. If your good stuff is at the end of your reel we may lose interest before we even get there.

√ Variety. Show us your range. A few seconds of different films is good. We don’t need to see two minutes of one sequence.

√ Keep it specific. If you want to animate, then only show us animation.

√ For graduates a compilation of your work is best. 3 or 4 shots that highlight your skills is fine, we don’t need to see your entire final year project.

√ Supers help. You’d be surprised how often we see the same shot on different people’s reels. List the film, your role and contribution. Eg. ‘Gravity’ – Lead FX TD – space ship explosion, Houdini

√ Breakdowns and passes of your work are great.

√ Feature film work only please.

√ Quality over quantity. A two to three minute reel is fine.

√ Relevant work. Keep it photoreal. We’re not a feature animation house.

√ Contact details at the header and tail of your reel. Name, skill and email address.

× Copyrighted material.
Don’t stress about the music. We’re only interested in the pictures.

You should receive an automatic email advising that we have received your application.

More personalized communication may follow your initial application which could lead to further discussion on skills and availability. But due to the large number of applications we receive, it is not always possible for us to reply to everyone individually.

If we’re looking for someone with your skills we’ll review your reel with the head of that relevant department. We often look at a few reels together, so the above reel tips are important. Once we make a short list, we’d give you a call to have a quick chat to find out more about your availability. The next step would be to organise an interview, probably via Skype or the like. This would be with our Recruiter and the head of the relevant department. It may include a team lead or a discipline supervisor – but we’d always introduce you to everyone and let you know who they are! We may ask to interview you again. It’s no big thing, just confirming first impressions or double-checking key skills for a particular project. Once that’s done we’d try and make a decision within a fortnight and call or email you to let you know.

Relevant applications will be kept on file within a password-protected database.

Your details may be kept indefinitely unless you request otherwise.

If you’ve applied for a specific job, then no you don’t need to reapply for that role.

We keep your details in our database and can look under a few search categories. When we’re looking for say compositors we run a search on ‘comp’ and you should come up. We then check your availability and refresh ourselves about your reel again.

Keep in regular contact. Email us changes to your availability or update us with a new reel or a new CV. It’s great to get in touch every 6 – 12 months – you never know what’s around the corner. It’s good to refresh the ol’ database.

Don’t be offended. You may have applied at a time when we were fully crewed for your skill. We may have been able to run a couple of projects back to back with the same crew. Re apply – the timing might be right this time.

Be relevant. The world of 3D and 2D is big. We only do a certain kind of thing. Don’t send us examples of the type of work we don’t do. Adapt to photo real or apply to the facilities that can better use your talent.

Due to the large number of applications we receive, it is not possible for us to provide individual feedback to all applicants.

From time to time we advertise entry-level positions. Often these are in the areas of production assisting, render wrangling, camera tracking, paint / rotoscoping, modeling and animation.
