Mortal Kombat to Film in South Australia!

Rising Sun Pictures (RSP) welcomes South Australian Premier Steven Marshall’s announcement that Hollywood blockbuster Mortal Kombat will be filmed in South Australia!

The Marshall Liberal Government has secured New Line Cinema’s much-anticipated feature Mortal Kombat to commence shooting in and around Adelaide, including the Adelaide Studios in Glenside, later this year.

Directed by award-winning commercial filmmaker Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombat will be one of the biggest films shot exclusively in South Australia. Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema is expected to inject $70 million into the South Australian economy and create around 580 jobs, with another 1500 extras employed.

“South Australia has a long and successful tradition of feature film making and Mortal Kombat will showcase our production skills to the world,” said Premier Steven Marshall, “Mortal Kombat will be the largest film production in South Australia’s history and highlights the importance of engaging with the world’s major production houses.”

Mortal Kombat is a bold cinematic adventure based on the blockbuster videogame franchise.

Tony Clark, RSP’s Managing Director, states “this is a tremendous opportunity for RSP and other local visual effects and post production facilities. The entire state filmmaking community will benefit, enabling current and future crafts people to showcase their talents on the world stage.” It will also make an enormous economic contribution to the South Australian economy.

Now in its 25^th year, RSP is no stranger to working on Hollywood blockbusters from Adelaide; in the past year the company has contributed to work on Tim Burton’s Dumbo, Spider-Man: Far From Home, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Captain Marvel.
