RSP initially provided pre-visualisation services for the film, as well as on-set supervision at Fox Studios. VFX shots included “juvenile bone claws” for Young Logan, an Adamantium injection, and a photo-real matte painting showing the general’s arrival at Alkali Lake. Both the bone claws and Adamantium claws were based on reference footage of claw prosthetics used on-set. As the claws emerge from Logan’s hands for the first time, a warping effect was used to indicate that the skin on the back of his hand was rising and moving as the blades emerged. For the Adamantium injection sequence, the set was dressed to look like the interior of an abandoned nuclear power station. Logan was suspended in a tank with an injection machine. The machine was mostly complete on-set, but the needle gun was replaced with a CG model for safety reasons. Practical bubbles rising in the tank in the foreground were also replaced with CG elements.
